"Pony Express" was the band's first and only single, released twice: once with a B-side cover, the Kinks tune "Victoria," and again with the latter plus an early mix of "Archie." The band had an opportunity to match its style with a colorful jacket design that included a felicitous snapshot of a cowboy swingset, taken by mutual friend and photographer Paul Levar.
